Research Interests: I am interested in the interaction between the self and others, specifically how the self can influence one's relations with others and how others and their behavior toward a person can influence that individual. Currently, I am researching this through the lens of social rejection and how that can affect an individual's interpersonal sensitivity toward friends and toward strangers.

As a researcher, I isolate factors that allow marginalized populations to thrive in environments that are often hostile; as an educator, I teach strategies that allow individuals to buffer themselves against the prejudices they encounter. I use an interdisciplinary approach to investigate the situation- and person-centered variables that allow stigmatized individuals to prosper. My current focus is how people construct and manage multiple social identities in the context of a threatening event.
