Rebecca Goodvin is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Western Washington University. Her primary research focuses on exploring the processes by which young children develop self-understanding of their behaviors, emotions, and personality characteristics in the context of parent-child relationships. Her goal is to understand the early relational experiences that contribute to emergent self-concept and emotional competence in young children, with a special focus on attachment relationships and parent-child communication. Rebecca completed her dissertation research examining young childrens interpretations of feedback about the self. Specifically, she is investigated the hypothesis that childrens security of attachment, existing self- representations, and psychological understanding may influence childrens interpretations of such feedback. She hopes that this study will contribute to attachment theorys formulation of internal working models, as well as to a more sophisticated understanding of patterns of self-concept development in early childhood.
