Let me start with a photo from the first family vacation taken together - a trip to Rome and Paris in July of 2004. My daughter Sabrina (Bree) and I traveled with my then fiancée Karen and her daughter Cady. Bree and Cady are only a year apart in age, and share some similar tastes and interests. So they got along splendidly, often occupying themselves while Karen and I got some romantic time together.

To the right is the four of us eating at a sidewalk cafe in Rome's Piazza Navona, just around the corner from our hotel (appropriately called Hotel Genio, Italian for "genius"). From left to right there's Cady, Bree, Karen, and me. In Paris the four of us had rooms at the Hôtel du Quai Voltaire, right on the Seine directly across from the Louvre. Besides being named after a great creative genius, the hotel has accommodated such notables as Jean Sibelius, Oscar Wilde, Richard Wagner, Charles Baudelaire, and Camille Pissaro.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

By the end of 2004 Karen and Dean decided to merge their families, selling their two homes and buying a 5-bedroom home in a newer part of Davis, which they moved into mid-January.

One of the home's most distinctive features is the attractively landscaped backyard, which includes a pond and waterfall with a statue of Buddha gracing the source. Moreover, this soothing scenic focus can be viewed from our office, the front door and main hallway, the rear upstairs bedroom, the living room, the kitchen and breakfast alcove, the master bathroom, and, most importantly, the master bedroom - from Karen and Dean's bed! Having merged their families in a new home, it seemed time to tie the knot, so Karen and Dean took off for Reno, Nevada, where on March 20th, 2005, they got married at the Wedding Chapel at the Reno Hilton!  The ceremony was intimate and moving (as you can tell from the look on their faces).

On June 10th another big event took place ... Cady's graduation from high school. Here Bree and Cady celebrate. Yes, Bree's hair changed color! 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Dean and Karen have a special affection for Bodega Bay on the coast of Northern California.  They like to rent a place right on the cliffs overlooking the ocean below.  Here's a photo from their most recent trip in late November of 2005. Yes, it was that warm!

Another rite of passage pic: Bree going to her senior prom with her long-time friend Nick. Plus, as an extra bonus, another change in hair style and color!

Well, Bree is now in her second year at San Francisco State University, and she has totally left her heart in San Francisco! Taking full advantage of MUNI, BART, and her trusty 10-speed bicycle (for the hills), she has thoroughly mastered the Bay Area: its parks, zoo, beaches, hills, bridges, and music venues. Although Bree and Cady attend schools 100 miles apart, they share a mutual friend in SF who brings them together from time to time. The picture shows them somewhere eating sushi in early 2008.
