 Research Objectives

Mike Cohen is a third year graduate student. He studies the neural bases of decision-making. For example, in one of his experiments, Mike showed that different emotional and cognitive processes engaged during decision-making tasks (for example, reward processing and uncertainty evaluation) recruit distinct dopaminergic brain circuits. Further, he showed that individual differences in personality correlate with activation in these areas in theoretically predictable and meaningful ways. He currently uses fMRI and behavioral approaches, and plans to start using ERP soon. His works-in-progress and works-in-planning focus on how people make decisions about whether to take risks.
