  Hate Crimes and Stigma-Related Experiences Among Sexual Minority Adults in the United States: Prevalence Estimates from a National Probability Sample. This paper reports data on the prevalence of hate crime victimization and discrimination in a nationally representative sample of lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults. It will appear in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
 
  Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships in the United States: A Social Science Perspective.. This paper summarizes social science data relevant to public policy concerning marriage equality and the recognition of same-sex relationships. It appears in volume 61 (issue #6) of the American Psychologist.
 
  Attitudes Toward Homosexuality Among U.S. Residents of Mexican Descent. This paper, coauthored by Professor Herek and Professor Milagritos Gonzalez, describes research on sexual prejudice among Mexican-American adults in California. It appears in Volume 43 (issue #2) of the Journal of Sex Research.
 
  Sexual Orientation and Military Service: Prospects for Organizational and Individual Change in the United States. This chapter coauthored by Professor Herek and Professor Aaron Belkin describes social and institutional changes needed to lift the ban on openly gay service members in the U.S. armed forces. The chapter appears in the 4-volume anthology Military Life: The Psychology of Serving in Peace and Combat, edited by T.W. Britt, A.B. Adler, & C.A. Castro. .
 
  When Sex Equals AIDS: Symbolic Stigma and Heterosexual Adults’ Inaccurate Beliefs About Sexual Transmission of AIDS. Professor Herek's new paper (coauthored with Keith Widaman and John Capitanio) reports national survey data on knowledge about sexual transmission of HIV. Substantial numbers of American adults equate sex with AIDS, even in cases when neither partner is infected with HIV. This misconception is especially widespread about sex between two men. The paper appears in the February 2005 issue of Social Problems.
 
  Beyond "Homophobia": Thinking About Sexual Prejudice and Stigma in the Twenty-First Century. Professor Herek's new paper details the history of homophobia, discusses the term's limitations, and proposes a new vocabulary for researchers in the 21st century. The paper appears in Sexuality, Research, and Social Policy, the on-line journal of the National Sexuality Resource Center.
