Through a sexually-explicit dramatization, this video provides instruction for gay and bisexual Latino men in safer sex practices. The story begins with a pickup in a Latino gay bar and a subsequent sexual encounter. Explanations on condom and dental dam usage and safer sex guidelines are discussed orally and written in both Spanish and English.
Joey, who speaks only English, picks up Carlos, who speaks mostly Spanish. They go to Joey's apartment where they have safer sex that includes kissing, nipple-play, licking, masturbation, oral sex with a condom and anal sex with a condom. This is followed by a written outline of basic safer sex guidelines and a demonstration by the actors of how to apply a condom and dental dam usage for anilingus. The video also advocates using condoms for anal and oral sex and latex gloves for anal fingering. It also lists safe alternatives to intercourse, such as mutual masturbation and kissing. Although the information provided is accurate, the video's technical quality is low, the lighting is poor, the camera angles are static and awkward (too close to the actors), and the actors are unconvincing, keeping you aware that they are following a script and just performing in front of a camera. Small inconsistencies are present in the Spanish/English translation. In English, for example, the viewer is told to use "lots of water-based lube," whereas in Spanish the viewer is simply told to use lube ["...usa un condon de latex y lubricante a base de agua"]. The instructional message would be stronger if all the text were read aloud for all graphics. |
