This video addresses issues surrounding safer sex through the story of a party attended by Black gay and transgendered men. Subplots deal with returning to unsafe behavior, resisting pressure to engage in unsafe sex, assumptions that younger persons are less likely to have contracted HIV, mixed HIV serostatus couples, condom usage, alternatives to intercourse including frottage, and taking responsibility for one’s actions. A frottage session takes place in the stairwell of an apartment building; the scene includes nudity.

The production quality is high. The acting is good; characters are believable and well developed. A strong point is the wide range of African American male characters presented. Characters include transgender males, a flamboyant middle-aged man, men of varied occupational status, and a man who feels ostracized by the group because he feels he’s not “a typical brother.”

The different sexual practices preferred by the characters create tension between them at one point in the story. Later, that tension is relieved in a discussion where the characters show support and encouragement for each person to make sexual choices that are safe and to discover that safer sex can be erotic.
