This video uses a soap opera style dramatization to provide information to migrant workers about AIDS and living with AIDS. Diego, a young man who has recently crossed the Mexican-American border with his wife, is doing migrant work, but he must finalize some medical tests before he can continue doing so. He learns that he is HIV-positive. The story evolves as he and Claudia, his pregnant wife, become informed about AIDS and HIV.
The video deals with the topics of living with AIDS; false assumptions about AIDS; information about specific transmission routes and casual contact; using condoms; and the importance of negotiation and taking responsibility for the care of one's own body. Condom negotiation is mentioned but no demonstrations are provided. Condom use is not demonstrated. The video includes appeals to the values of familismo (Claudia's desire to have her family near during these hard times) and religiosity (the scene of Claudia praying). The acting is of low quality. The graphics and inserts used during the scene in the doctor's office are unclear, non-explicit, and illegible in one case. The overall technical quality of the video is adequate. Harsh and imprecise audio edits may distract viewers from comprehension of the video's message.
