Generating random numbers in Excel

  1. List the cases (names) for the entire population in a column on a spreadsheet

  2. Place the cursor in the cell next to the first case.

  3. In the formula bar type =RAND()

  4. Copy and paste cell contents to other cells

  5. Sort by column containing the random numbers
