    Seminar description:   This seminar will offer the opportunity to consider and discuss current ideas and research in socioemotional and personality development.   The domain of coverage is life-span, although the principal focus is on development from birth through adolescence.  The intersection of developmental science and public policy will also be considered. ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /> Readings :  Readings will be drawn from recent journal articles, chapters, and other sources.

     

    Seminar format:   Seminar sessions will consist primarily of lecture and discussion.  Consistent attendance, preparation, and participation is important to the success of the seminar.  Students will participate outside of class in small study groups that meet weekly to discuss the readings and prepare a written response to the ideas discussed in them.  Each group's response paper will be sent to the instructor no less than 24 hours prior to the seminar, and will be incorporated into the seminar discussion.  Besides the response papers and participation in discussions, students will write two papers: (a) a 5-7-page methodological critique of a recent research report drawn from one of the leading journals of the field, and (b) a 15-20-page review of research on a topic of personal interest.
