Course Description - Journal Reviewing in Developmental Psychology

The purpose of this course is to learn about the journal reviewing process.  We will cover topics such as: How to write a review of an empirical article; how to write a review of a theoretical article; how to avoid fatal flaws that can kill your article; how to get inside the mind of the editor; how to write a review that will help a paper get published without seeming biased; how to write reviews that will make an editor want to put you on the journals editorial board; how to write a resubmission letter. Each week we will read an article and the associated editorial correspondence (decision letter plus reviews) and discuss the pros and cons of the research.  Grading will be based on: (1) completing reading assignments and writing one review, (2) attending class and participating in class discussions, and (3) giving a brief oral report in one of the classes.
