    The Neurobiology of Parental Care

    Spring Quarter 2014

    Units: 4
Prerequisites: Graduate standing or consent of instructor. See instructor for CRN.
This course will focus on the neurobiology of parental behavior. We will cover the neural circuitry that regulates parent-infant bonding in multiple mammalian species. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the molecular mechanisms through which neuromodulators and neurochemicals act at critical neural sites to regulate parental care. Further, we will examine environmental, experiential, genetic and epigenetic factors that shape parental responses across and between generations.
