Translational Cognitive Affective Neuroscience (TCAN) Lab

Instructor: Cameron Carter

Credit Type: Natural Science

Our laboratory includes the Duration of Untreated Psychosis (DUP) project and the Early Psychosis (EP) project, which are both currently looking for volunteers. The DUP project focuses on reducing time between the onset of serious mental illness and engagement in appropriate treatment through electronic screening and community based mobile assessment. The EP project uses clinical interviews, questionnaires, computer tasks, and MRI scans to examine the relationships between symptoms, cognition, and neural mechanisms in psychosis.

Volunteers in the TCAN lab can gain clinical experience with a psychiatric population and shadow clinical appointments and will be safety monitor trained for MRI scans. Volunteer duties include:

  • Assisting with data entry
  • Administrative tasks
  • Data auditing
  • Subject recruitment
  • Brain tracing

Prerequisites (if any)

Applicants with previous research or clinical experience will be strongly considered, but no prior experience is required.

  • We require a minimum of 8 hours per week with a one year commitment, although scheduling of hours is flexible.
  • There is a free shuttle between the Davis campus and the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where our lab is located.
  • Applicants should send a cover letter and CV, including college GPA, and contact information for two references to Vanessa.
