The KHMW, founded in 1752, is the oldest learned society in the Netherlands. Its mission is to advance scholarship across the sciences and humanities and to promote meaningful engagement between science and society—an objective that remains of enduring importance. The Society comprises approximately 500 academic members, complemented by a distinguished group of foreign members of international standing, as well as nearly 500 members of society at large, reflecting its longstanding connection with civic leadership. Since 1841, the KHMW has been headquartered in the historic Hodshon House in Haarlem, an architectural landmark and longstanding center of its scholarly activities. King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands is the Royal Patron (Protector) of the KHMW.
