New research by Brian Wiltgen shows that experience changes the way our neurons become plastic

We know instinctively that our experiences shape the way we learn. If we are highly familiar with a particular task, like cooking for example, learning a new recipe is much easier than it was when we were a novice. New research from Dr. Wiltgen's lab shows that experience also changes the way our neurons become plastic and form new memories.

The work is published online in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology.

Gail Goodman elected as a new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters

Distinguished Professor Gail Goodman was recently elected as a new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Founded in 1857, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters is a non-governmental, nationwide body which embraces all fields of learning. Its main purpose is to support the advancement of science and scholarship in Norway. Along with her appointment in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Davis, Professor Goodman was also a professor at the University of Oslo, Norway between 2001 and 2006.

Chris Hopwood receives 2018 Theodore Millon Award in Personality Psychology

Chris Hopwood was selected as the recipient of the American Psychological Foundation’s 2018 Theodore Millon Award in Personality Psychology. The award will be presented at the 2018 APA in San Francisco and honors an outstanding early or mid-career psychologist engaged in advancing the science of personality psychology including the areas of personality, personality theory, personality disorders and personality measurement. Congratulations!

Alison Ledgerwood named 2017-2018 Chancellor's Fellow

Alison Ledgerwood has been named a 2017-2018 Chancellor’s Fellow, The Chancellor’s Fellows Program was established in 2000 to honor the achievements of outstanding faculty members early in their careers.

Chris Hopwood and Wiebke Bleidorn receive Animal Advocacy Research Fund grant

The Animal Advocacy Research Fund grant awarded funding to Chris Hopwood and Wiebke Bleidorn to study motives for ethical eating.The purpose of this project is to develop a model of individual and group differences in motives for ethical eating so that animal advocacy groups can tailor campaigns and maximize their impact on groups and individuals with different motives for plant-based diets.

Rick Robins named new Associate Editor at PSPR

Rick Robins will start his term as Associate Editor at Personality and Social Psychology Review (PSPR) in January 2018. PSPR is the premiere outlet for original theoretical papers and conceptual review articles in all areas of personality and social psychology.

Simine Vazire receives 2017 Leamer-Rosenthal Prize for Open Social Science

Dr. Simine Vazire has been awarded one of eight 2017 Leamer-Rosenthal Prizes for Open Social Science by the Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences (BITSS). Dr. Vazire receives the award for her outstanding efforts to advance reproducibility, openness, and credibility in the social sciences, largely through her teaching at UC Davis, as well as her efforts to establish the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS).
