Professor Ferreira Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

Psychology Professor Fernanda Ferreira was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This honor is awarded to "members whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications in service to society have distinguished them among their peers and colleagues" (AAAS).

Professor Ferreira's research aims to uncover the mechanisms that enable humans to understand and generate language in real time and in cooperation with other cognitive systems. Her research program uses basic insights from formal linguistics, especially theories in sentence phonology and syntax, to develop models of processing. Her empirical work relies both on behavioral and neural measures, including eye-tracking (for measurement of fixations, saccades and pupil diameter) and the recording of event-related potentials (ERPs).

Professor Ferreira is internationally renowned in psycholinguistics. She is an elected member of the Governing Board of the Psychonomic Society and serves as an associate editor of the journal Cognitive Psychology and an editor of the journal Collabra. She is a fellow of the Cognitive Science Society, the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
