NEW! PSC 1Y - General Psychology (hybrid version)

This course covers the same material as PSC001 (General Psychology), but it uses a live/online hybrid instructional format. The basic factual material is delivered by means of an online textbook and online lecture videos, interspersed with frequent interactive quizzes. 

Most of the materials will be delivered electronically, and you will be able to do the readings and watch the lectures whenever you like (prior to specific deadlines).  There will be no in-class lecture component.  The live component will consist of a weekly 1-hour discussion section with a group of 25-30 students, led by the professor and/or a teaching assistant.  A Facebook page will allow you to ask questions about the readings and lecture materials, and there will be a live review session before each midterm exam.  All the students in the course will meet in a lecture hall every second Friday for the midterms.  When you register for the course, you will sign up for a discussion section, and then you will automatically be signed up for the Friday exam meeting.

Our experience with this type of course format is that students like the flexibility of being able to watch the lectures whenever they like (and being able to pause and rewind the videos if they miss something).  Students also like the more personal attention they get in the discussion sections compared to traditional large lectures.  We also find that students learn the material better in this format.

This course is a substitute for PSC001.  In other words, PSC001Y can be used to fill the same requirements as PSC001.  In addition, you cannot take PSC001Y if you have already taken PSC001 (and vice versa).
